8 True Fan Commandments
1. Do Root for your team by all means necessary! This means 100% through championships, losing seasons, bad management etc. This also includes watching your team play. Too many people claim to be fans but don’t even watch the team play. (exception baseball)
2. Don’t jump the Bandwagon! If you are a true fan you are already a routing for the team. So changing allegiance to a team more likely to win is treason.
3. Do make some noise! When your at the stadium or arena don’t just sit there! Route for your squad, let them know your their. Unless you know the correct way to holler you should never come home with nothing less than a hoarse voice!
4. Do know who is on your team! There is nothing worse than a “true fan” who doesn’t know who number 8 is. True fans know the squad, the back-ups, the minors or practice squad players, and their recent draft picks.
5. Don’t let visiting opponents fans out cheer you in your stadium, bar, hangout etc. This should never happen no matter when, what, or where. Do not let your team feel like their on the road at home. Have pride in your team.
6. Do hate on all other teams! This goes double for rivals. (Few exceptions are when they help your team to get into the playoffs, or secure the first pick in the draft etc.) However you can still respect the players! This is hard, but have respect for all the players weather you like them or not. With out them we fans have no league.
7. Do know your teams situation! Team knowledge is always key. How many points do they need to clinch the division, make the playoffs, etc. Cannot stand the fans who don’t know the standings.
8. Do the other 7 commandments 100% harder in the playoffs. This is why we watch the game baby and every playoff appearance could end up a championship run! So enjoy it and give it all you expect the players to give.
